In October 1968 a group of Sikhs (numbering around 30 families) began meeting together to look at ways of celebrating religious Sikh festivals. Those in attendance would offer their own homes to accommodate these meetings and decided to choose the name Nirman Sewak Jatha for this group.

June 1969 a decision was made by the members of the Nirman Sewek Jatha to look into purchasing a building which could be used as a Gurdawara and also as a community centre. The current premises at 11 SummerHill Road, was identified as a possible building suitable for this purpose and on 15 April 1970, six members went to the Property Auction and were successful in bidding for it.

History

Our forefathers, relatives and families have sacrificed a lot to leave us the legacy of our own Gurdawara., since 15 April 1970 the Nirman Sewak Jatha Gurdawara is a place of worship.

We have owned the Gurdwara on Summerhill Road since the 1970's and we have recently completed a large-scale renovation of the building to secure its future and historic features - both as a place of worship and as a community facility which will bring local people together.

The congregation has been aware for some time we were going to have to face refurbishment and upgrading work of our facilities to maintain standards and safety, as the current building became too small for our growing congregation. In addition we wanted to introduce new technology in the building. We are always welcoming donations for the up keep of our Gurdwara Sahib.....Why not come visit us
